Entre public et privé : le système de santé du Québec à la croisée des chemins
Critical Synthesis of the 42nd Jean-Yves Rivard Colloquium 2025
The 42nd edition of the Jean-Yves Rivard Colloquium, held on May 1, 2025, had the theme “Between Public and Private: Québec’s Health System at a Crossroads.” This day of reflection brought together researchers and professionals for keynote presentations, panel discussions and roundtables focused on dental care, psychological services, and health system financing. The discussions shed light on the growing tensions between public and private approaches, particularly due to chronic underfunding in certain sectors and the expansion of private healthcare markets. Analysis of public opinion reveals a population deeply committed to universality yet increasingly concerned about access issues. Panelists called for stronger alignment between public initiatives and private practices, as well as increased investment in prevention, territorial planning, and equitable access to care. This report offers a critical and interdisciplinary overview of ongoing reforms and possible avenues for transforming Québec’s health system.
